Das Orchestre national de France unter der Leitung von Pascal Rophé wird heute Abend musikalisch unterstützt von der russischen Geigerin Viktoria Mullova und dem britischen Cellisten Matthew Barley. Auf dem Programm stehen sehr moderne Werke von Webern, Dusapin, Stravinsky und Varèse.
Den Auftakt bildet Anton Weberns Frühwerk „Im Sommerwind“. Komponiert hat der junge Künstler die Partitur vier Jahre vor seinem berühmten Orchesterwerk „Passacaille“. Die „Idylle für großes Orchester“ wurde erst nach dem Tod des Komponisten uraufgeführt. Zum Zeitpunkt ihrer Entstehung war sie Weberns ehrgeizigstes Projekt.

Als Nächstes hören wir das „Double concerto für Violine und Violoncello“ von Pascal Dusapin, dargeboten von Viktoria Mullova und Matthew Barley. Das eigens für das englisch-russische Duo komponierte Konzertstück wird zum ersten Mal in Frankreich aufgeführt.

Es folgt „Der Gesang der Nachtigall“ von Igor Strawinsky. Die sinfonische Dichtung stammt aus Strawinskys erster Kurzoper „Die Nachtigall“, einer Vertonung des gleichnamigen Kunstmärchens von Hans Christian Andersen. Diaghilev und Balanchine schrieben einst die Choreographien für die Ballettoper mit chinesischem Lokalkolorit.

Letzter Programmpunkt ist Edgard Varèses „Arcana“. Wie der Name vermuten lässt, tauchen wir in ein geheimnisvolles Universum ein, in dem Magie und Mystik herrschen. Eine Partitur von außerordentlicher Klang- und Bildgewalt.
